Giri Kuppad Winter Trek

5 Days

Trek Schedule: February 11 to February 15, 2025

Nestled in the Jubbal area, Giri Ganga holds deep religious significance for Hindus. In the past, transportation in the region was limited, making travel a challenge. Legend tells of a saint who visited the Jubbal palace and impressed the king. Through meditation (tapasya), he pleased the goddess Ganga, who blessed the place with her presence.

The determined saint then traveled to Haridwar, carrying holy Ganga water in his vessel (Kamandal). He returned to Kuppar and began his ascent, aiming to create a source of the Ganges there. During his climb, he stumbled a short distance from his meditation spot. He cried out “Giri Ganga,” and thus, the place received its name. After performing rituals (havans), a natural spring emerged, marking the source of the Giri Ganga. The Jubbal king later built a temple to honor the Ganges. It’s believed that Giri Ganga holds spiritual importance akin to Haridwar.

Despite its religious significance, the Giri Ganga Valley remains hidden from view from Kharapathar village. Dense forests of pine and golden oak cloak the valley, making it a secluded paradise. Rock climbers are drawn to the challenging terrain. The valley path leads to Kuppar peak, the highest point in the Giri Reserve forest.
