The Tailbaila-Savashini Ghat- Sudhagad Trek is a challenging but rewarding trek that offers stunning views of the Sahyadri Mountains. The trek starts from Tailbaila and passes through the picturesque Savashini Ghat before reaching the historic Sudhagad Fort.
Tailbaila are the twin pinnacles between Mulshi and Lonavala. They look like bread slices just out of toaster. The formation of the pinnacles is known as dikes. The Amazing Western Ghats were formed due to lava eruptions. When the lava settles down and forms layers it is known as dike. Climbing the walls is a matter of expertise; however one can reach the V-shape Col between two walls. The Sudhagad fort can be seen very clearly from here. Tailbaila is on the higher side of western ghats and the altitude of the walls is roughly 1013 meters.
There are number of routes which reach the base of Sudhagad. Handful of them start at Tailbaila village. One of them is known as Savashni ghat, which descents from the base of Tailbaila walls and reaches at Dhondse which is base of Sudhagad.
Sudhagad is one big fortress in Konkan region. The mountain has huge plateau which houses several ruins along with Pant Sachiv Wada, couple of temples and numerous hero stones. You will enter the fort through Maha Darwaja while ascending from Dhondse. This Maha Darwaja is exact replica of the main entrance of Fort Raigad which is located about 60 kms south from here.
