The Kenjalgad to Raireshwar trek is a beautiful and refreshing route in the Sahyadri hills of Maharashtra. This trek takes you from the lesser-known but scenic Kenjalgad Fort to the historically important Raireshwar Plateau. Kenjalgad Fort, also known as Ghera Khelanja, was built during the rule of the Bhoj Rajas in the 12th century and later came under Adilshahi control. It was later captured by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in 1674. The fort is small but offers stunning views of the valleys around.
After exploring Kenjalgad, the trek continues across green meadows and open plateaus. During the monsoon and post-monsoon seasons, this trail comes alive with lush greenery, flowing streams, and a pleasant breeze throughout. The walk is peaceful and not very difficult, making it suitable for most trekkers.
The trail finally leads to Raireshwar, a place deeply connected to Maratha history. This is where Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj took the oath of ‘Hindavi Swarajya’ in 1645 when he was just 16 years old. The Raireshwar temple, standing on a large plateau, is surrounded by stunning landscapes and flower-filled fields in the rainy season.
