Trek from Umbarkhind to Duke’s Nose is a rewarding experience that blends natural beauty, historical significance, and moderate adventure. Umbarkhind is a forested mountain pass in the Sahyadri ranges of Maharashtra, famously known for the Battle of Umbarkhind in 1661, where Shivaji Maharaj’s forces ambushed the Mughal army, using the terrain to their advantage. The trek offers a chance to walk along the same paths where history unfolded, surrounded by lush green forests, streams, and panoramic views. As the trail progresses toward Duke’s Nose (Nagphani)—a towering cliff named for its resemblance to the profile of the Duke of Wellington—it provides trekkers with breathtaking views of the Western Ghats, as well as the nearby towns of Lonavala and Khandala.
