The Duke’s Nose Trek, locally known as Nagphani (meaning “hood of a cobra”), is a dramatic cliff located near Lonavala and Khandala in the Sahyadri mountain range of Maharashtra. Soaring to an elevation of about 3,200 feet (975 meters), this iconic rock formation gets its English name due to its uncanny resemblance to the pointed nose of the Duke of Wellington. The trek is not only known for its relatively short yet exhilarating climb but also for its thrilling adventure sports like rappelling and valley crossing. The region is wrapped in dense greenery during the monsoon and transforms into a haven for nature lovers, photographers, and hikers seeking a quick escape from city life. Its position on the edge of a cliff offers 360-degree panoramic views of the Western Ghats, the Mumbai–Pune Expressway, and nearby forts such as Rajmachi, Lohagad, and Visapur, making it one of the most scenic treks in the state. The area is also home to a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, which adds a spiritual touch to the otherwise adventurous setting. Whether you’re a seasoned trekker or a beginner looking for a memorable nature walk, Duke’s Nose offers a compact yet deeply fulfilling trekking experience.
