Nisargnaad Offbeat: Mahipatgad Sumargad Rasalgad

2 Days

For experienced hikers seeking a substantial challenge, the 27.7-kilometer point-to-point trail near Khed, Maharashtra, presents an exceptional opportunity. This route, averaging 9 hours and 29 minutes to complete, demands a high level of physical fitness and navigational proficiency. The trail traverses the Rasalgad, Sumargad, and Mahipatgad mountain ranges, culminating at the expansive Mahipatgad Fort, a site of significant historical interest. Given the trail's length and demanding elevation profile, participants should expect a rigorous and potentially solitary experience, ideal for backpacking, birdwatching, or remote camping.

Beyond its physical demands, this trek offers a rich immersion into the natural and historical landscape of the Sahyadri region. Mahipatgad Fort, covering 200 acres, provides a tangible link to the area's past, while the surrounding Western Ghats showcase a diverse array of flora and fauna. The trail's constant ascents and descents, while challenging, reveal panoramic vistas of lush greenery and varied ecosystems. While the trek's length and elevation changes necessitate careful planning and preparation, they also contribute to a profound sense of accomplishment and a unique appreciation for the natural beauty of the region. This trail represents a compelling undertaking for those seeking a demanding yet rewarding adventure in a relatively undisturbed environment. While the constant ascents and descents test your endurance, they also reveal the unparalleled beauty of the Sahyadri mountain range, making this trek a truly exceptional and rewarding adventure for those who dare to undertake it.
