Goechala Trek: A Breathtaking Himalayan Adventure

The Goechala Trek in Kanchenjunga National Park is a journey like no other. However, the true highlight of the trek is the breathtaking view of Mt. Kanchenjunga and the towering peaks around it. As the sun rises, golden hues paint the mountains, creating a sight you’ll never forget. Although the trek is challenging, the sense of accomplishment and the mesmerizing scenery make it truly worthwhile. Itinerary

    01

    Arrival (Bagdogra) and Drive to Yuksom

    Report at Bagdogra and Drive to Yuksom. The drive from Jalpaiguri to Yuksom is 113 miles and takes about 6 hours. The drive from Jalpaiguri to Yuksom is a scenic journey through the picturesque landscapes of North Sikkim. Beginning in the plains of West Bengal, the route gradually transitions into a mountainous terrain as you enter Sikkim. The journey offers glimpses of rural life, tea plantations, and stunning mountain views. Winding roads, lush forests, and cascading waterfalls characterize the approach to Yuksom, a picturesque village nestled in the foothills of the Himalayas.

    Yuksom to Sachen (7200 ft)

    The trek from Yuksom to Sachen is a relatively short but steep climb, offering a taste of the challenges that lie ahead on the Goechala trek. The trail passes through lush forests, offering stunning views of the surrounding mountains. The trek begins in Yuksom, a historical village with ancient monasteries and scenic views. The initial part of the trail is a gentle climb through dense forests. As you ascend, the views gradually improve, offering glimpses of the surrounding mountains. The trail eventually reaches Sachen, a small village nestled in the foothills. Sachen offers a peaceful atmosphere and stunning views of the Himalayas.

    Sachen to Tshoka (9750 ft)

    The trek from Sachen to Tshoka is a moderate climb that takes you through dense forests and offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains. The trail passes through several small village Bakhim and offers opportunities to experience local culture and way of life.

    Tshoka to Dzongri (12,900 ft) via Phedang

    The trek from Tshoka to Dzongri is a moderate climb that offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains. The trail passes through lush rhododendron forests and offers opportunities to experience the beauty of the Himalayan landscape. The initial part of the trail is a moderate climb through dense rhododendron forests. The trail passes through a small pond and then continues to ascend towards Dzongri.

    Acclimatization day at Dzongri

    Dzongri, nestled at an altitude of 12,980 feet, is a popular base camp for acclimatization during the Goechala trek. Spending a day here allows your body to adjust to the higher altitude and reduces the risk of altitude sickness.

    Dzongri to Thansing (12900 ft)

    The trek from Dzongri to Thansing is a relatively short journey but offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains. It's an excellent opportunity to acclimatize further before embarking on the more challenging sections of the Goechala trek. By the end of the trek to Thansing, you'll have gained elevation and acclimatized further, preparing you for the more challenging sections of the Goechala trek. The journey offers a taste of the challenges and rewards that lie ahead.

    Thansing to Goechala (15420 ft) via Samiti Lake and back to Thasing

    The trek from Thansing to Goechala is a challenging ascent through steep slopes and rocky terrain. The trail offers breathtaking panoramic views of the Himalayas, including Mt. Kanchenjunga. Once you reach Goechala, the highest point of the trek, you'll be rewarded with stunning vistas of the surrounding peaks. After enjoying the views, the descent to Lamuney is a steep and challenging journey, but the stunning scenery makes it worthwhile.

    Thasing to Tshoka (9750 ft)

    The trek from Thasing to Tshoka is a steep descent through dense forests and offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains. The trail passes through several small villages, providing opportunities to experience local culture and way of life. As you descend, the views gradually relish, offering panoramic vistas of the Himalayas.

    Tshoka to Yuksom

    The trek from Tshoka to Yuksom is a gradual descent through lush forests and offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains.

    Departure from Yuksom to Bagdogra

    The final day of the Goechala trek involves a drive from Yuksom back to Jalpaiguri. This journey takes approximately 5-6 hours and offers scenic views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. You can relax and enjoy the journey as you reflect on your incredible adventure.

Cancellation and Refund Policy

1. If cancellation is made one month or more prior to the trek, we will refund 100% of the paid amount.

2. If cancellation is made 15 to 30 days prior to the trek, we will refund 50% of the paid amount.

3. If the cancellation is made within 15 days prior to the trek, there will be no refund.

4. If the trek gets cancelled due to any any natural calamities like Uttarakhand floods, Nepal Earthquake, Covid-19 pandemic, we will refund the trek fees deducting actual expenses incurred depending on the stage of the trek.

Weather Conditions: Heavy snowfall, rain, or landslides can lead to route closures or changes in the itinerary.

Local Regulations: Changes in local regulations or policies, such as those related to services, hot water provision, facilities, or insurance, may impact the trek.

Emergency Situations: Medical emergencies, natural disasters, or political instability can necessitate unexpected deviations from the planned itinerary.

Government Restrictions: Government regulations or advisories may restrict access to certain areas due to adverse weather conditions or other safety concerns.

Other Uncertain Interruptions: Any unforeseen events that may disrupt the trek.

Additional Costs:

In the event of such disruptions, additional costs may be incurred for the following, which the participant will be responsible for:

Emergency Transportation: Helicopter evacuations or alternative flight or road transportation arrangements may be necessary due to weather conditions or route closures.

Accommodation Changes: If the original itinerary cannot be followed, we may need to make alternative accommodation arrangements.

Insurance Premiums: While we recommend travel insurance to cover unforeseen expenses, please note that the cost of insurance is not included in our tour package. Participants must follow up with their insurance company for any disputes. We will assist with any required documentation or information from our organization but cannot guarantee insurance coverage.

Other Uncertain Additional Expenses: Any unforeseen expenses that may arise due to disruptions.

GAF’s Financial Considerations:

As a professional and ethical adventure trek organizer, we typically pay our local suppliers in advance to ensure smooth operations. This means that in the event of unforeseen circumstances, we may not be able to obtain refunds from our suppliers. As a result, we may not be able to absorb additional costs that may arise due to such disruptions, and the participant will be responsible for these costs.

Government Restrictions: Please note that government regulations or advisories may restrict access to certain areas due to adverse weather conditions or other safety concerns. If such restrictions are imposed during your trek, we may need to alter the itinerary or terminate the trek early. In such cases, we may not be able to provide a full refund.

However, we remain committed to providing the best possible experience and will do everything within our power to assist you during any unforeseen challenges.
