Wake up early morning and catch flight for Lukla. The journey is about 40 mins. Once you reach Lukla (2840 m), have quick snacks and start the trek to Phakding (2600 m). It takes about 3 to 4 hrs to reach Phakding.
The initial part of the trek includes walk through the nearby villages. A lunch halt at Jorsalle Village. The next part of the trek includes crossing high suspension bridges and finally a steep climb till Namche Bazar. After reaching, take rest and explore the market nearby. Time taken – 4-5 hours
You will be going for a hike from Namche Bazar to Everest View hotel. This marks the first glimpse of Mt Everest. You can rest for a while and start you descent to Khyang Juma.
Debuche is a beautiful village situated at an altitude of 3870 m. The trek to this village comprises of flat walking, descending, and final ascent after the lunch halt at Phunkithanga. The Tengboche monastery is worth a visit. The time taken is about 6 hours.
You will be crossing through some of the beautiful villages. You will see a scenic view of Mt. Ama Dablam from Pangboche village. You will have lunch in the next village, Somare. Average trekking hours 5 to 6.
This day, you will hike to a nearby hill. You can go till an altitude of anything between 4800 m to 5000 m. If weather is clear you might get a view of Mt. Makalu (world’s fifth highest mountain – 8481 m). Also, Mt Lhotse and Mt Ama Dablam are visible. You can rest for the remaining day or explore the village.
The flat trail till Thukla Pass will offer some of the best views of this trek. You will be having lunch at the base of Thukla pass in Thukla Village. Climbing this pass just after lunch makes a gradual climb very tiresome. Once you reach the top, you’ll find the pass full of mountaineers’ memorials. You can find many famous mountaineers memorials who lost their lives in different expeditions. We usually spend some time at the pass and then proceed to Lobuche. Thukla Pass to Lobuche route is relatively flat. An average trekker takes about 6-7 hours to reach Lobuche from Dingboche.

You will start the climb to Kalapathar early morning at around 4 AM. By the time you reach a flat section, you will get a view of Mt. Everest and sun rays peeping from behind this mighty mountain. You will start you return journey from Kalapathar to Gorakshep (Kala Patthar hike is optional) and further to Pheriche (4320 m). You have to cross (descend) Thukla Pass and climb down on an adjacent route to Pheriche. Pheriche is small and beautiful village on the banks of Lobuche River. You will take around 6-7 hours today.
The trek route takes you through Somare, Pangboche, and Tengboche villages. You will encounter two steep sections, one before Tengboche and one after Phunkithanga. It takes around 7-8 hours for the trek.
The trek from Khyang Juma to Tok Tok is not difficult. The maximum trek consists of descending. It will take around 3 hours to reach.
This is the last day of the trek. You will be walking on the same trail as Day 1. You will take around 3-4 hours to reach Lukla.
You will catch the flight to Lukla. After reaching Tribhuvan Airport, you will be transferred to Hotel.

FAQs
This is one of the safest of the high-altitude treks with medical and emergency chopper lift facility. But you should try not to be beneficiary of these facilities which surely make a hole in your pockets. You must listen to the GGIM team’s advice. Before the trek, you should follow a fitness training module to prepare for this trek. We will share a training module with you once you register for the trek.
Trekkers are supposed to be in good physical conditions. You should increase the level of intensity of training over 4-5 months period. Apart from daily fitness, you should carry 4-6 KG load on your back during the practice treks. It will help you simulate the trekking conditions. EBC has moderate level uphill-downhill walk and on some specific trails, you may even have to climb little steeper. Few trails involve continuous walk of 4-6 hours. Be careful of not stretching yourself too much!
Climate is generally pleasant during the day time. As the evening approaches, it starts becoming colder. At night after the Namche Bazaar camp, night temperatures may reach subzero levels. Care must be taken to have appropriate warm clothing. The hotels provide blankets at night. However, you may need a sleeping bag as the weather gets very cold. We recommend to rent down jackets and high altitude sleeping bag from local shops in case you don’t have them.
You will NOT be spending nights at EBC. You need special permit for staying at EBC but only if there is proper base camp setup which is done during climbing season. You will go up to the EBC Patthar and return to Gorakhshep on the same day before its dark.
You will be staying hotels on a twin/triple sharing basis. All the beds are provided with blankets. Common dining hall has a heater to warm your bodies. Generally, the breakfast menu is like Musli- milk, Omelet- bread- butter, pan cakes etc. For Lunch we mostly recommend Daal-bhat (local Nepali cuisine) and at dinner, there are many options. You can choose whatever you want from the menu. We recommend not to eat non veg during the trek as it is generally not a fresh meat. We will serve you hot water for drinking. There is a famous Sherpa mantra for food during the trek: “Daal –bhat power, 24 hour!”
Yes, for USA/UK passport holders, you will have to bear additional charges such:
1. Cost of Visa on arrival
2. Kathmandu – Lukla – Kathmandu flight charges
3. Permit fee to enter Sagarmatha National Park
4. Hotel booking charges in Kathmandu
This cost is roughly INR 15,000/-
The flight to Lukla operates through Ramechhap Airport which is around 3-4 hrs drive from Kathmandu during the peak trekking season.
Generally the weather during summer is cloudy and clear during winter. Make sure you check weather condition to proceed to the next destination. However, the weather doesn’t restrict that particular day’s movement.
- Always stay on the mountain side, while yaks, mules, porters etc. cross at any point.
- Always walk in your own pace even if you are last in the group as it is not a race.
- Remember acclimatization in high altitude area is very important.
- Always keep positive mental attitude throughout the trek. Enjoy the mountains and always remember – All for One ; One for All !
- Insurance is important for a trek like EBC. Make sure your insurance covers helicopter evacuation and settle hospital bills if there is emergency.
- Always keep Emergency Contact Numbers with you.
- Wear appropriate clothes according to the kit list shared with you.
- Don’t forget to carry (Sunglasses sunscreen lotion, walking poles, local currency, power bank, warm hat and gloves, camera is optional, mobile)
