The Harishchandragad trek via Nali Chi Vaat is considered one of the most challenging and thrilling routes in the Sahyadri mountain range. This path is not for beginners—it demands not only physical endurance but also mental strength, technical skills, and proper gear. The term “Nali Chi Vaat” literally means “the route through the gully,” and that’s exactly what trekkers face: a steep, narrow gorge carved by centuries of water flow, flanked by towering rock walls. The route begins from the base villages like Belpada or Pachnai, but soon deviates into dense forest and rocky ravines. As the climb progresses, trekkers must navigate through slippery moss-covered boulders, climb over vertical rock patches, and sometimes wade through flowing streams. Several sections require ropes, harnesses, and the guidance of experienced climbers or local guides.
Unlike other popular trails to Harishchandragad, Nali Chi Vaat is raw, less traversed, and holds a sense of wild isolation. The final ascent opens up dramatically onto the Harishchandragad plateau, near the famous Konkan Kada—an enormous cliff that offers breathtaking panoramic views of the Konkan region.
