Ratangad Fort Trek

Ratangad Fort Trek

1 Day

Ratangad Fort, located in the Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra, is one of the most scenic and historically rich hill forts in the Sahyadri mountain range. Perched at an elevation of around 4,255 feet, it overlooks the Bhandardara backwaters and offers breathtaking views of the surrounding peaks such as Alang, Madan, Kulang, and Kalsubai—the highest peak in Maharashtra. The fort is believed to be about 400 years old and is said to have been captured by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, making it an important site in Maratha history. Ratangad, meaning “Jewel Fort,” lives up to its name with its natural rock formations and the famous “Nedhe” or “Eye of the Needle,” a large natural hole in the rock that offers a unique panoramic view. The trek to the fort passes through dense forests, ancient caves, and the picturesque village of Ratanwadi, which is also home to the beautiful Amruteshwar Temple, an 8th-century Shiva temple carved in Hemadpanthi style.
